Free Gce 8160b Cd R Rw Driver

Driver HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B Hi, I’m not sure what problems you guys had with the drivers for the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B Read/Write drive. My problem is that since I had to reinstall XP after a crash, I can no longer read CDs that have not been finalized. I think the driver that XP installed is a DVD driver and not a RW driver.

Looks like I have a common problem. Purchased in early 2002, it seems that, in their wisdom, Dell decided NOT to include the drivers for the CD-RW and DVD devices that I have on my PC. I have had a look at the LG website but they only have the XP version of the driver. I do have Roxio Platinum 5 CD creator, but I am getting the familiar message that there is no writable device located on my system. This of course is total BULL. If anyone out there has the driver, or has a system with the driver, could you please contact me and let me know where it is or send it to me. I need to get this fixed so that I can reattach my stuffed up disk and backup data. At the moment I have lost 4 years worth.

Hi Madasmaz, The drivers for the optical drives (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD/RW, DVD/RW) are generic to the Operating System, so there is really none to download. However after re-installing the Operating System did you install the Intel Chipset Drivers? If not, this can cause issues with a few devices. The driver should be on a disc you received from Dell but you can also download them from Dell, hover your mouse over the Product Support Tab above, enter information for system and follow the link.
